Housing:
Limited housing options are available via the SSE itself (the details of which and other housing options can be found here) at two locations: 1) Liljeholmen (older but closer to campus) and 2) Häggvik (newer, better furnished but farther from campus).
Applying to live in SSE housing can be done after acceptance: An email will be sent regarding the application process which must be responded to quickly, as housing is limited and not all students will be able to get it.
Other housing options are available, as noted above, and a full list of them can be found via the corresponding link, at the bottom of the page. A very attractive option is Lucidor via Stifelsen Stockholms Studentsbostäder (SSSB), located in Gamla Stan (The Old City) a short distance away from the SSE. Prices for apartments range from ~$620-~$1000 per month, and the queue for getting a place can be as long as 7 years.
Many other options via SSSB exist and should be kept in mind, and you should sign up for the SSSB as soon as you can so as to begin accumulating days in the queue. The following system governs when to sign up: Once you sign up to the SSSB, you must join the Student Association within 90 days, which you can only do once semester has started. Therefore, you should join the SSSB around 85 days before semester begins (giving yourself 5 days to join the Student Association once semester begins) to maximise your time in the queue whilst complying with the respective regulations.
Scholarships and Grants:
SSE University-Specific Scholarships ➤
The SSE grants several half-tuition waivers and a very limited number of full-tuition
scholarships for international students from Non-EE/EEA/Swiss citizens.
Applications require a letter of motivation in which you detail why you are right for a
scholarship based on academic merit, needs, and a vision for what you will do with your
education. You can also include any of the special scholarships for which you qualify based on identity.
The SSE specific scholarships are applied through their portal hhs.fullfabric.com with the rest of the application, under the scholarship tab shown during the program-specific application process.
IELTS World Study Scholarship ➤
A scholarship distributed by the British Council IELTS (English Exam you should take for work & scholarship opportunities, $250), StudyPortals, and ISIC (International Student Identification Card, very worthwhile getting when you matriculate) worth £10,000. This money is paid out directly to the student’s university for tuition; if tuition is less than £10,000, the remnant will be given to the student for a period of up to 52 weeks for living expenses.
The scholarship is given to a student who fulfils the following: high academic achievement, talent, and motivation; a plan to change the world with their studies; a genuine interest in fostering cross-cultural dialogue. Furthermore, a letter of acceptance from a given institution is necessary to be considered for the scholarship by the deadline date (July 20th) with term starting in the Autumn of the same year (2024).
Kreditkortsval Scholarship for Economics Students ➤
A scholarship awarded to economics students who will: write their thesis on a topic concerning finance, credit cards, or the payment industry in general; provide a detailed description of said thesis to Kreditkortsval; give reasoning for why they are the right student to receive the money; provide proof of registration with a Swedish university or college and the study of economics.
The scholarship is worth SEK 5,000 (~$456) and is paid out at the start of the Autumn and Spring semesters, every year, for a “few” years -- presumably the length of the bachelors. Wholly, the scholarship would be worth SEK 30,000 (~$2735) over the course of 6 semesters.
The deadline is October 31st with the erm starting in the Autumn of the same year (2024).

Swedish Residence Permit for Studies in Higher Education:
To be able to stay in Sweden for a period longer than 3 months (for which you would need a visa), you must apply for a Residence Permit from Migrationsverket (Swedish immigration service) based on higher education studies in Sweden.
It is recommended that this be done extremely early such that a response can be received and any issues resolved before the start of Autumn term (August 2024). Migrationsverket states that 75% of applications for a Residence Permit for Studies in Higher Education are processed within 4 months of the online submission (1).
The fee for an application for “Student residence permit” is SEK 1,500 (~$136.6). In
addition, there exists the application for “Residence permit to seek employment after having completed studies in Sweden” which costs a fee of the same (SEK 1,500) amount as the previous, which will be relevant upon completion of a Bachelor’s (2).
The requirements for a residence permit being granted are:
❖ Complete Scan of Valid Passport;
❖ Letter of Admissions from Qualifying Institution (those listed here);
❖ Proof of Payment of Tuition Fees to Qualifying Institution;
❖ Proof of Ability to Financially Support Yourself (via: 1) personal banking statements no older than 4 months at the beginning of term, 2) scholarships, 3) institutional sponsorship (fellowships, etc., NA for most), 4) employment, and 5) loans and grants) to the combined amount of no less than SEK 9450 (~$861) per month;
❖ For those studying in Sweden for a duration of 1 year or less, proof of Swedish health insurance or an application thereto is also necessary.
Detailed information can be found here 3, 4, SU residence permit guide 4.1, tips can be found here 5, the E-application site can be found here 6, 7, and a Webinar guide on the application process can be found here 8.
LASTLY, the permit is valid for only one year and must, therefore, be extended each
year (no earlier than 6 months before the valid permit expires) -- the student is entitled to stay in Sweden whilst their application for extension is being processed but must show that they have made satisfactory progress in their studies (demonstrate good grades) (9).
